Christmas is one of Infinity’s Staff Music Therapists. She provides services primarily in New Haven and Fairfield Counties. Christmas is nationally board certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists. She graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy. While in school, Christmas gained experience working with adults in psychiatric care, children and adults with developmental disabilities, and adults in hospice care. She completed her internship at Matheny Medical Center, a specialized residential hospital treating people of all ages with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and genetic disorders, including Lesch Nyhan’s Disease.
Christmas takes a humanistic and community-centered approach to music therapy. In doing so, she collaborates with clients to identify their personal strengths and resources as they work towards self-actualization.
Prior to attending Montclair State, Christmas received training in classical singing and piano from the Community College of Baltimore County. There, she helped found theschool’s chapter of the Student National Association of Teachers of Singing (SNATS) and served as vice president.
Prior to working at Infinity, Christmas worked at a music school where she taught voice and piano to children and adults, directed group classes, and arranged music for keyboard, voice, guitar, bass and drums. She later opened a private music education studio in which she instructed students on songwriting and music production, in addition to voice and piano.
Christmas is a lifelong musician, and has trained as a classical vocalist since childhood. Primarily a lyric mezzo-soprano, Christmas also plays guitar, piano, and ukulele. Additionally, she has experience playing clawhammer banjo, bass guitar, drum set, and violin. Prior to her career in music therapy, Christmas toured as a singer songwriter and featured guest in bands in Costa Rica and the United States. She has released one single on which she sang and played piano and violin under the name Christmas Violet. She hopes to release more music in the future.
Christmas approaches music therapy with the intention of making her client’s inner world a more comfortable and empowered place to be. She is passionate about the field of music therapy and the people it serves. She aspires to one day contribute to the body of music therapy research, so that more people may have access to meaningful and effective care.
